In the south of Cebu Island lies Barangay Tan-awan which is located 10 kilometres away from the town of Oslob. Previously a normal society, it rose to fame after the arrival of the whale sharks, also known as gentle giants. Locally, they are known as “butanding” or “tuki”.

History

These whale sharks initially came to the beaches of barangay Tan-awan in search of food where the residents fed them. As a result, the whales got accustomed and kept coming back for more each day. Eventually, it lead tourism in the local area. Today, large numbers of tourists from worldwide visit Oslob just to experience swimming with the gigantic but harmless whales.

How to get to Oslob Whale Sharks?

We will pick you up at your hotel or resort. Transportation will be provided by us as it is included in the tour. We will ride a 30 minute ferry towards the lilo-an seaport, you can also avail the travel facilities in our tour packages which will include the whale watching.

Tips for visiting Oslob whale watching

Make sure we will leave Dumaguete City at around 4:00 am if you wish to be among the first whale watchers and to make sure we will be there before cut-off time. This is also the perfect time for travelling as the roads will be clear and free of traffic.
